Hollis E. Pruitt was born in a tenant farm shanty in the middle of a cotton field near Shaw, Mississippi.
His grandparents, Arthur and Alberta Myles, were his first teachers in the lessons of life, faith and "book learning."
He was "formally" educated in the Little Rock, AR school system, graduating in 1971. After high school, he served in the US Army then returned to school to complete his BA at the University of Arkansas. Later he earned his MA in Creative Writing from the University of Tennessee. He is currently an English professor at Thomas Nelson Community College while working on his PhD at William and Mary College.
His poetry and prose have appeared in Virginia Adversaria, Windhover, American Poetry Review, The Brass Check and in a self-published volume, The Handbook of the Elves.
Hollis is also featured on the website of VA Poet Laureate 2006-2008, Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda.
